Department of African Studies

About us

Founded in 1923 together with the Department of Egyptology (the two disciplines separated in 1978), our Department has been located on the campus of the University of Vienna (Altes AKH) since 1998. Today, there are more than 30 employees and 200 students who are involved in research, teaching or working groups (such as the Racism-Critical Working Group) for a lively academic exchange. Contact us if you have any questions or are looking for advice. We are at your disposal and look forward to getting to know you!
