Presentation by students of the department

Colonial language knowledge production and its consequences until today will be in focus of this webinar organized and presented by students of the MA course “From Colonial Language Textbooks and their Heritage” at the Department of African Studies at the University of Vienna. The presenters will address this topic from different angles: a) linguistic strategies and ideologies in colonial Africa, b) knowledge production, individual motivatons of those who produced linguistic and language knowledge, and c) from a text analytical approach working with examples from Swahili textbooks from the past until today.
The input will hopefully serve as a trigger for some challenging questions the organizers would like to discuss with the audience.

Chair: Daniela Waldburger
