Validation - recognition of professional or non-professional qualifications

From 01.10.2022, professional and non-professional qualifications from the so-called non-formal sector (e.g. private courses, educational offers in further and adult education) and informal sector (e.g. knowledge, skills and competences acquired professionally or non-professionally) can be recognised if their learning outcomes have been validated beforehand.

Information on the further procedure and the application for recognition

An application for recognition can only be submitted after the validation of learning outcomes of vocational or non-vocational qualifications has been carried out by the competent SPL (Studienprogrammleitung).

If the validation has been confirmed by the SPL, proceed as follows:

  • The application for recognition must be submitted to the Department of African Studies (afrika@univie.ac.at).
  • The form "Validation of professional and non-professional qualifications" must be enclosed with the application for recognition as proof of achievement.
  • The qualification (source achievement) and the examination/course for which recognition is to be granted (target achievement) must be stated on the form.

Validation cannot take place:

  • The qualification applied for cannot be recognised → the course/examination offered according to the curriculum must be completed.

Measures are ordered by the SPL:

  • SSC/SSSt sends the information about the measure to be completed to the relevant lecturer and the student.
  • The student contacts the lecturer and arranges an appointment.
  • Teacher sends the completed protocol, which includes the result of the completed measures, to the SSC/SSSt.
  • SPL decides whether validation can take place or not.
