at the Department of African Studies to 28.02.2027.

The discipline of African Studies belongs to the field of Area Studies. It focusses on the study of African societies, history, languages, and bodies of literature.
Applications are invited for a part-time lectureship in African literatures.

Duration of employment: 4 years (01.03.2023-28.02.2027)
Extent of Employment: 20 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Profile:
- PhD in the field of Literature or related disciplines / with focus on preferably African language literature but also African literature in foreign/European languages such as English, French, or German. If possible the successful candidate will be required to work on research projects within African language literature (analysis, description, and digitization of poems, novels, songs, and any other literary corpora produced in African languages).
- Knowledge of principles of teaching (Candidates would be required to teach courses in African literature at both the BA and MA levels.)
- High command of written and oral language
- Computer literacy
- Foreign languages along with specialist knowledge of at least one African language
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Ability to work in teams
- Experience in teaching / experience in e-learning
- Experience in knowledge management
- Knowledge of university structures and processes

Profile:
- PhD in the field Linguistics or a related discipline / with focus on African language structures and situations.
- Minimum requirements: formal linguistics.
The main area of specialization should be descriptive and formal/theoretical linguistics. Preference will be given to candidates who work on Lexical-Functional Grammar, Minimalism, or related formal frameworks, as the successful candidate will be required as part of his/her teaching and research duties to work closely with Principal Investigators who have teaching programmes and research projects analyzing language in these frameworks.
- Additional requirements: Candidates should have a secondary specialization in one of the following areas: (a) African language literature (linguistic analysis, description, and digitization of poems, novels, songs, enchantments, and any other literary corpora produced in African languages); or (b) African diaspora studies: the study of linguistic repertoires, hybrid linguistic and communication systems, and literary and other artistic forms of expressions in African communities outside Africa.
